Egyptian FM to visit Chad for ministerial meeting on Sudan
August 5, 2023 (CAIRO) – The Egyptian Foreign Affairs minister, Sameh Shoukry will visit Chad on Sunday for a meeting aimed at resolving the conflict in Sudan.
The first meeting of the ministerial mechanism formed at the summit of Sudan’s neighboring countries on July 13, will take place in N’Djamena from August 6-7.
A statement from the Chadian Foreign Affairs ministry said the primary objective of the two-day meeting is to put forward strategies to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan, which has witnessed thousands of people killed and millions displaced.
Additionally, the meeting will also draw attention of partners towards the pressing humanitarian crisis and urge for immediate responses to alleviate the situation.
“The ministers aim to develop practical proposals that enable the heads of state and governments of Sudan’s neighboring countries to reach effective solutions that would end the current crisis and preserve the unity of Sudan, its territorial integrity and the capabilities of its people,” stressed the statement.
Sudan has been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese army (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) across the country since April 15, which left over 3,000 people killed, according to the Sudanese Health Ministry.
More than 3 million people have been forced into displacement, inside and outside the country, since conflict broke out in Sudan, according to United Nations estimates.
