August 19, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – A new shipment of medical supplies for kidney diseases and cancer from Qatar arrived in Port Sudan on Wednesday.

The shipment includes 70 tons of specialized medicines and medical supplies.

The first plane carrying the donation from Qatar Charity arrived in cooperation and coordination with all concerned government bodies in Turkey and Sudan.

The aid, provided with support from the people of Qatar, is part of the charity’s ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Sudan.

The donation, the statement said is, in response to the urgent appeal of the Sudanese Ministry of Health to meet the need for these specialized medicines.

The Sudanese Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, praised the ongoing humanitarian support from Qatar Charity to the people of Sudan.

“We highly value this grant that arrived at the precisely right time, anticipating it would contribute to filling a portion of the gap in treating cancer patients in the coming period,” said Ibrahim.

He further pointed out that the grant provided by Qatar Charity for the patients with kidney failure will also contribute to meeting the substantial need of approximately 8,000 kidney dialysis patients across different states in Sudan.

According to Ibrahim, what distinguishes this aid and the Qatari airlift is that it includes the first cancer medicines to reach the country since the commencement of the ongoing conflict, adding that cancer medications have become scarce and limited for approximately 18,000 cancer patients in Sudan.

For his part, however, Qatar’s ambassador to Sudan, Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al Sada said that this aircraft is loaded with urgent medical supplies in response to the appeal of the Sudanese Federal Ministry of Health, which announced few days ago its need for specialized medicines for kidney and cancer patients.

He said the two planes that arrived at Port Sudan Airport are an extension of the Qatari airlift, which consists of a total of 12 planes to support the people in Sudan.

This medical aid, according to the statement, is a continuation of Qatar Charity’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by conflict in Sudan.

In addition to food aid, Qatar Charity provided medical supplies as part of the first airlift, which included 10,000 blood bags, 1.9 tons of IV fluids and ABG devices.
