August 28, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army and Chairman of the Sovereign Council, emphatically reiterated his confidence in the armed forces’ forthcoming victory over the ongoing conflict with the Rapid Support Forces.

Underscoring the circumstances surrounding his departure from the Army General Command headquarters on the 24th, Al-Burhan clarified that it transpired without the involvement of any agreement or external assistance. He emphasized that the army had meticulously planned and implemented the military operation.

Addressing army personnel at the Flamingo Naval Base in Port Sudan, the capital of the Red Sea state, he firmly stated that discussions of an agreement with the RSF were illusory and disavowed any collaboration with “traitorous” elements.

He also dismissed once again claims that they are allied with the Islamists.

He highlighted the profound sacrifices made by the Sudanese people in their unwavering support for the armed forces. The army chief emphasized that all army units across Sudan were resolutely united in their aim to “overcome the rebels,” firmly differentiating them from those who had seized Khartoum and asserting that their actions were inconsistent with the values of Sudan.

“Our entire focus now centres on conquering the insurgency, thwarting acts of treachery, and countering mercenaries originating from various corners of the globe, and emerging from this ordeal even more robust.”

Al-Burhan added that the armed forces confronted these challenges independently, without external support. He further asserted that their reliance on their own capabilities and divine providence was a source of great pride.

He confirmed that ongoing efforts aimed to arrange, reorganize, and mobilize the army to quell the rebellion. He assured the Sudanese populace of an imminent, definitive resolution to the Rapid Support Forces’ menace.

In an unwavering tone, he pledged to persevere in combat until the last soldier.

On August 24, the commander in chief of the Sudanese army left his fortified bunker at the general command in Khartoum and moved to the northern military zone of Omdurman. The RSF claimed to besiege him, and he could leave the area.
