Egypt, Sudan discuss steps to implement agreement on four freedoms
CAIRO, Mar 04, 2004 (MENA) — Egypt and Sudan discussed Thursday executive steps to implement an agreement on the “four freedoms” of movement, residence, work and possession of their citizens.
A decision in this respect has been taken by Egyptian President Husni Mubarak and his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir during recent talks in Cairo.
Executive steps to implement the agreement were discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Dr Atif Ubayd and visiting Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Uthman Isma’il. The meeting was attended by Sudanese ambassador in Cairo Ahmad Abd-al-Halim.
Following the meeting, Isma’il said he conveyed a verbal message to Ubayd from Sudanese First Vice-President Ali Uthman Taha on practical steps to implement the agreement between the two countries.
The two sides discussed the construction of Alexandria-Port Sudan road which will reach southern Africa later on , in addition to the western road of Aswan-Donkola, he said.
Talks also covered activation of transport means between the two countries through their two national air carriers and the Egyptian-Sudanese Nile Water Authority, he added.
