Sudan’s Burhan heads to UN General Assembly meetings

September 20, 2023 (PORT SUDAN) – Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, has departed for New York City to lead the Sudanese delegation participating in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Burhan received a send-off at Port Sudan International Airport, accompanied by the Deputy Head of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Malik Agar, Lt Gen Mohamed Al-Ghali Ali Youssif, the Council’s Secretary-General, and several ministers.

He is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of Sudan on Friday, September 22. Additionally, he will engage in high-level meetings to discuss the enhancement of multilateral cooperation on various international and regional matters.

During the 78th session, the President of the Sovereign Council will convene with heads of state from different countries and representatives from international and regional organizations to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

The theme of the 78th General Assembly session is “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity.” The theme’s subheading emphasizes the importance of world leaders’ consideration of the UN’s 2030 agenda, which includes attaining its 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the specified deadline.
