Kiir in Moscow for bilateral talks
September 27, 2023, (JUBA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir is in Moscow for bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart, his office said on Wednesday.
The minister for the Presidency, Barnaba Marial Benjamin said Kiir will discuss the peace implementation process and preparations for the 2024 elections.
Also, to be discussed are the arms and sanctions imposed on South Sudan, he said.
While addressing the United Nations General Assembly last week, Kiir called for uplighting of the arms embargo and global support for the conflict in Sudan.
At least 20.3 million people across Sudan are acutely food insecure and need food and livelihood assistance between July and September 2023, according to the latest integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) on the war-torn country.
