October 2, 2023 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Monday fired the Central Bank governor and deputies, naming successors for the posts.

In a decree on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir sacked Central Bank governor Johnny Ohisa Damian, replacing him with Dr. James Alic Garang.

The presidential decree also affected First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Addis Ababa Othow and Second Deputy Governor John Maciek Acuoth, who were succeeded by Samuel Yanga Mikaya and Nyiel Gordon Kuol respectively.

No reasons were, however, cited for the new changes made in the Central Bank.

The move comes amid concerns over the deterioration in the country’s economy.

In another decree, Kiir appointed Malual Tap Dhieu as the new First Undersecretary of Finance and Planning ministry, succeeding Kuol Daniel Ayulo.

Kiir, in a separate order, sacked the Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Athian Diing Athian with Africano Monday as the head.

He also named Albino Dak Kur as the Deputy Commissioner General of the NRA.
