Kiir urges Central Bank governor to improve economic situation
October 5, 2023 (JUBA)- South Sudan President Kiir has urged the newly appointed Central Bank governor, James Alic Garang to coordinate and improve the economic situation in a country largely dependent on oil revenues.
He made the remarks during the swearing-in occasion of the new bank governor.
Garang, a renowned economist, was appointed in a decree read on Tuesday.
Kiir, in his address, urged the new governor and his two deputies to join hands and address the shortfalls in the economy so as to improve livelihoods of the people.
A former advisor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Garang pledged to cooperate with his team, government institutions and donors to address the economy.
South Sudan’s Presidential Affairs minister, Barnaba Marial Benjamin described Garang’s appointment as “strategic” in tackling the country’s economic woes.
