African union says ICC should not obstruct political settlement of Darfur crisis

July 12, 2008 (ADDIS ABABA) — The African body for peace and security said today that Justice in Darfur should not obstruct the political efforts to settle the five year conflict in the troubled region.

International Criminal Court Deputy Prosecutor Mrs Fatou Bensouda briefed the Peace and Security Council of the African Union on Friday 11 July on ICC effort to bring justice in Darfur, as the Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo prepares to present to the Judges in The Hague his second case in the Darfur situation, scheduled to take place on July 14.

Press reports say that ICC prosecutor plans to act against Sudanese government officials including President Omer al-Bashir for alleged war crimes in Darfur.

In a statement released after a meeting in the Ethiopian capital yesterday, the Council “expressed its strong conviction that the search for justice should be pursued in a way that does not impede or jeopardize efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace…”

The AU peace and security body said the UN Security Council itself, in a March 2005 resolution, had “emphasized the need to promote healing and reconciliation” in the region.

Sudanese Ambassador at the African Union organization, Akuei Bona Malwal, said ” the Council stressed the need to promote a political settlement rather than resorting to the measures undertaken by the prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo.”

In Ethiopia, Deputy Prosecutor Bensouda also met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Jean Ping.

Prior to traveling to African Union Headquarters in Ethiopia, Mrs Bensouda attended the African Union Summit in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, from 30 June – 1 July.

    Dear ICC,

BE strong! AFRICAN UNION SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO DEFEND THE PERPETUATION OF INJUSTICE AND GENOCIDE IN DARFUR AND SUDAN IN GENERAL.It is regrettable to all of us to see African union defending criminal leaders the likes of OmaR, MUGABE and the likes.IS AU trying to improve on system of Good governmance or Worsening it? what lasting peace are you trying to bring to Darfur if the situation keeps on Worsening? stop acting like ARAB LEAGUE defending terriorism in Arab countries! it will end us no where.ICC should eliminate criminal leaders in the world and a good number of them are in Africa. Therefore,it will be examplary to all if this good move is fully implemented.LET THE ARAB LEAGUE AND ARAB countries bark but justice must be valued!

African union says ICC should not obstruct political settlement of Darfur crisis
    Dear Fellow Sudanese,

Before anything, let’s first look at the statement of the people like ” the Khartoum’s ambassador to the UN, the Sudanese ambassodor to the Au, the Ban-ki Moon forged comments, the comments from the Chinese govt, then you will surely conclude that, we have people who are behind the suffering of all marginalized Sudanese.

Organization of African Unity (OAU), was desolve after its failure to solve Africa’s problems
, and many thought the so-called African Union could make difference, but rather, instigating and supporting voilence, instability in Africa, and we can look at this in these ways:

1.When thousands of Kenyans were murdered by the forces loyal to Kibaki, the world stood firm on condemnation of such attrocities, but this weak ill fated African Union, was standing at the other side of the sea, so many people left their homes just because of simple things that African leaders failed to produce and denounce.

    2. When the government of Zimbaabwe mobbed the opposion, and tried to triger Genocide into the land, this same thing was also opposite, so I really don’t know what is wrong with African leaders?,are they fearing their weaknesses to be exposed?, the only wise remarks was from the Senegolis president who said that” African laeders are backing at the international intervention, but they canno solve their own problem. I support his idea. Now if Al Bashir yesterday cried for the help from Arab league into his issue, can’t this weak leaders realize the blood trading the Arabs are doing aganst the black Africans?, All African leaders are power hungry, that is why they fear to talk about their own problems.

    3. Since,1983,we have been in the bush, childred being murdered, elders massacred, few who addopted the life of the oppressors lives in humility, hatred, looked at, and serious suffering, till the Current Darfur issue which has now lasted for five years, where was the African Union and where is it at the moment?,
Do they mean to say, that the people of Darfur are in peace yet the UN peace looters are watching civillians being massacred by the Khartoum government?
For me,the UN must stay away, this is just and it must prevail, for if the ICC is really for justice, and an independent organization, the trial of Al Bashir should go on Successfully, any reaction against the peace Looters should be answered to, the the so-called peace and money Looters, the UNMIS and AU, weak forces in Darfur.

Lastly, we need peace in Sudan, and for this reason,Al Bashir should be tried with immidiate effect.

    Go Go Go Ahead Ocampo…………..

Al Bashir and Osman Taha, who funded the Janjaweed Must be hanged like Sadam Husein without fail so that we can realize peace i the whole Sudan.

The World is waiting for Al Bashir to be Hanged like Sadam Husein and he must face the robe before the end of this year if there is justice in Sudan and the World………..
