October 22, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – At least 3.7 million people in Sudan received life-saving assistance from humanitarian partners from 15 April to September, the United Nations said.
Prior to the conflict, 2.7 million people were reached from January to March.

This, the UN said, includes provision of vital education, health, food, nutrition, water and protection assistance.

Fighting in Sudan has resulted in devastating consequences for civilians, with more than 4.5 million people internally displaced across the country.

Many others have reportedly been cut off from access to basic services in Khartoum, Darfur and Kordofan states.

Prices of food commodities, when available, continue to soar, the UN said.

“The protection of civilians remains a key concern, with reports of increased sexual and gender-based violence as well as reports of family separation and child recruitment,” it further stressed.

Meanwhile,  there are reports that access to health continues to be hampered by the ongoing conflict. In addition, existing health facilities lack sufficient staff and supplies, and are barely functional in some areas.

Delivery of humanitarian assistance has been constrained by insecurity, looting and bureaucratic impediments.

Currently, humanitarian organizations reportedly require $2.6 billion to support 18.1 million people with multi-sectoral with multi-sectoral assistance and protection services until the end of the year, but only $783.1 million had been received as of September 15.
