Three rebel leaders defect in west : radio

AL-FASHIR, western Sudan, Mar 06, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — Three rebel leaders from the western Sudan have returned to a home locality, among them field commander of Abu-Qaran region north of Northern Darfur State (NDS), the Sudanese radio reported yesterday.

The returnees are Jamal Abubakr Jabir, Adam Sulayman and Mustafa Jaz, the field commander of the rebels in the region of Abu-Qaran Mountains which are located in the northern part of Northern Darfur region.

The radio didn’t mention to which rebel organisation they belong.

In a festival which was organized on the occasion of their return to Malha in Malit locality, they said they did so in response to the call by the president of the republic and his resolutions

The internal affairs state minister, Ahmad Harun, said the government was fully committed to development and construction process of Darfur, and supporting services projects in Malha.

For his part, while addressing a huge public gathering in Malha, the governor of the NDS, Osman Mohamed Yusuf Kibir, welcomed the returnees from rebellion. He declared amnesty for all of them in accordance with directives and resolutions of the president of the republic, in this regard.

The three leaders who returned to the fold of the state said they returned to become propagators of peace, defenders of faith and homeland, as well as the unity of the people of Darfur. They thanked the government for its concern about the problem of Darfur and its serious strives to realize peace, stability and development.
