Sudanese army accuses RSF of causing fire at Khartoum refinery

A large fire broke out at Al-Jaili refinery on December 6, 2023

December 6, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have accused the Rapid Support militia (RSF) of causing a fire outbreak at the Khartoum refinery in Al-Jaili on Wednesday.

In a press statement, the SAF stated that the fire was a result of the RSF’s destruction of the refinery’s control system. The statement also accused the RSF of attempting to pin the blame on the SAF to discredit the military.

The army held the RSF and its “mercenaries” responsible for the full consequences of the fire and the damage it caused to the refinery and the surrounding area. The statement also called on the international and regional community to expedite its classification of the RSF as a terrorist organization.

The RSF has denied any involvement in the fire, claiming that the SAF is responsible for the incident.

In a statement released in the early hours following the fire, the paramilitary forces blamed the Sudanese army for carrying out the fourth bombing of the refinery, located north of Khartoum, since the conflict between the two sides began.

The Khartoum refinery fire marks the latest escalation in the ongoing violence between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a conflict that erupted on April 15th, 2023.

The Khartoum refinery stands as the largest fuel production facility in Sudan, supplying essential energy resources to the nation.
