Sudan opposition party hails Kiir run for presidency

August 3, 2008 (WASHINGTON) – A Sudanese opposition party hailed the decision by the chairman of Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) to run for presidency in the 2009 elections.

Mubarak_al-Fadil-2.jpg “I warmly welcome the choice by the SPLM to pick my brother Salva Kiir to run for the presidential elections” Mubarak Al-Fadil leader of Umma Reform and Renewal party said in a statement today.

“The candidacy of Kiir, a leader from the south with considerable influence among the people will create a new reality that ends the power and wealth monopoly by the elites in central Sudan which led to the marginalization for the majority of Sudanese” Al-Fadil said.

“The countryside in Sudan produces 80% of national income but only receives 20%” he added.

Last month the SPLM political bureau met in Juba and announced that Kiir is their candidate for president in next year’s elections. Kiir has previously been reluctant to run for president.

Kiir’s candidacy comes amidst a row between Khartoum and the International Criminal Court (ICC) whose prosecutor is seeking an arrest warrant for Sudan president Omar Hassan Al-Bashir.

The timing of the SPLM announcement appeared to have angered the ruling National Congress Party (NCP). Some observers have suggested that Al-Bashir’s position may be weakened by the ICC accusations.

Sudan presidential adviser Nafi Ali Nafi said in press statements last week that president Omar Hassan Al-Bashir “is the most qualified person for presidency whether people like it or not”.

But Al-Fadil said that Kiir “enjoys an agreeable and balanced personality putting him in a position to gain national consensus that secures Sudan’s unity between the North and the South”.

However the opposition leader fell short of endorsing Kiir or saying whether he would run for presidency.

“We in the Umma Party look to this development positively and we will take that all that into account when the party bodies deliberate on candidacy for presidential elections” the statement read.

In July Sudan’s parliament approved the elections law under terms of a 2005 peace deal which ended a north-south civil war and changed the way wealth and power are shared.

I congratulate Mr Fadil for endorsement to Mr Kiir and SPLM party in generall for their decision to run for upcome election in 2009. Becuase Sudan has been united since the time Britain left under the elite arab mnority in Khartoum who monopolised the power and wealth excluding the rest of Sudanese peopl to enjoy the enrichness of their culture and heritage. It’s time for the South Sudanese to try and unify all the splited Country and to restore it international reputation.

I hope if South Sudanese become president for the first time in history sudane will be united and it will never be the same again as Dr John Garang said. Thanks to our brothers in the North Sudan who want united Sudan and want peace to prevail all over Sudan and to all peace loving. May peace be with you all.

    Cheers

    Dear Mubarak al Fadil,

Thanks for your warm welcoming of Mayardit for cadidacy. It shows that some element in Khartoum are ready for a regime change. Our Sudan wouldn’t be same a gain as said by the late Dr. Garang, should you allow this face of the little change.

Forget words from Bashir thugs like Nafie Ali Nafie. They are only ready for Bataniya not Wataniya!. They are only stomach worshipers not Allah worshipers!.

So you better gives changes a chance!.
Thinks big about it now and forever!,

    Be bless.

You just feel happy about this but none of you has ever understand the trick of Arabs in particular country of Sudan, just to make it simple that without ICC indication nothing of this kind would have been shown by Arabs to Southerners, and this is just for a short period of time if anyone with logic can understand, should Kiir keep showing proud of that for truth soon South will regret in silly way. People must be logical whenever dealing with a man called Arabs in fact this guy is just like a chameleon, however if we don’t understand the characters of Arabs later we are the losers. Why do we show pride just because of a word instead of action, can anyone really explain why those Arabs intend to act like they hate Bashir at this period of time?, we should be mature not acting like a baby being deceive with a piece of sweet, this is a critical point targeting us just to save with Basher’s life but if we are serious we should be able to response with confidences, I know tomorrow Kiir will be heading to condemn the decision of ICC by speaking like those Arab countries. But should we keep selling ourselves just because of wards for truth we should be called dogs who followed a butcher to his own home to guard him. I will never trust any of this until we come to the conclusion, perhaps Bashir has done enough may be he can let one of his Arabs to continuous and he will ran to their heaven for criminals Saudi Arabia.

Well at this point, I think no southern could takes Northern sudanese politician by their clever words. and to brother Kuereng Jongulei your early sympathetic compliment of MR. FADIL is ugly just as he has also falsified ” HIS EXCELLENCY” Salva Kiir Mayardit by refering to him as brother. where in the world could person with different culture, physical appearance, religion and of course different political background be refering to another person as brothers if that is not a pure sale-out flaws. guest what, those people in north are still keeping the old mindset that southerners are still in their deep sleeping despite our stalmate during the war. Their strategy is to eliminate SPLM TOP politicians pretty much in the near future especially during election time. so we will have to be watchful for our leaders safety.

While al-Fadil’s praise of the SPLM leader decision to contest the upcoming national elections is welcomed

    Read the following suggestions;

Anyone who thinks that an indicted war criminal is going to embrace free and fair democratic elections is overoptimistic or dreaming.

As long as the infamous SAF remains loyal to Omar Beshir, no one else ‘ll be president of Sudan whether elections are fair or not.
    Forget about United Sudan.
    Can’t wait for 2011

He who is on fire know how it burn. Mr. Mubarak words, terming president Kiir as his brother, is completely lie. People should not congratullate them when they look like standing behind SPLM, now they don’t know that today’s SPLM is not like yesterday one.
    Be warned and be aware.

I would not take Mubarak Al Fadil’s remarks seriously unless he declears unconditional integration of his Umma party into SPLM.

The term “Brother” if used by an Arab leader in the north and, especially from Al Mahadi’s descendant it means ” Infidal and Slave who deserve being killed”.

Sadiq Sidiq Abdelrahaman Abdalla known as (Sadiq Al Mahadi) used the same term “brother” to William Deng Nhial in 60s and that term has assissinated the marginalised popular leader. I believed that Sadiq Al Sidq ordered the assissination of Deng Nhial, pretend to be a brother or friend and held a funeral. God may judge me later if I am guilty for having this feeling about Al Mahadi’s grandsons.

My heart always jumps if I heard that beautiful word “brother” being used by northern leaders for bad intentions.

I can just say to the SPLM leaders please, be careful, stay alert all times and pay special attention to those who call you brothers in tongues with complete absent in hearts.

MANY THANKS TO MR. MABAK AL-FADIL

I would like to thank the Sudanese opposition leader for his speech. Sudan wanted people of this kind. People should be looking at what will improve Sudan and not what is Arab or an African origin.

But the other aching problem is this man in the name of NAFI ALI NAFI. How can he breath through his ass this corrupted statement. Using must will not solve any problem in Sudan. Tell the Arabs that it’s too little too late to speak that way. You will all go to ICC with your dictator president. Shame on you.

Mr Famous Thank you very much for your information coming out as burning fire as hell!

To all above statement i have read! ladies and gentlement boys and girls who ever love to read issues and comments then want to through in what surprise them or make them happy, consider the fact first and then get the image and then the body language.

i sincerelly myself though of above press conference made by Umma party supporter is a patheic, unworthy, and dishonest. i approve to you if by mean i had to explain but in that case i just give you and example.

Omar Al-Bashir is wanted by ICC, he briefly convince his fellowers to agree for candidate election to be run in 2009, The CPA official agreement is on it’s way in 2011. do you as my fellowers southerners have any idea whats bashir party is doing to us? same thing due to last war might happen to us if we continue our heart as agreeable people in any cuicumstances then we would be leftbehind in soo called president in a muded desert with our heart full of chemical if we decide to do him a favor as Kirr keep himself close just because of the CPA or the Vice President of Sudan.

lets give him a hard time just for once and decline any neccasary income or request as a failure then he should come to understanding. Thanks southerners for listening

It is true that we have to be vigilant all times, but in regard to Mubarak’s comments I appreciate him irrespective of being Arab or from UMMA Party in the sense that he has genuinely revealed the true nature of NCP “The countryside in Sudan produces 80% of national income but only receives 20%” and continued talking about monopoly of the wealth by NCP. These are factual hints to SPLM as political party runninig for elections next year.

I can understand his comments as nothing else than a true expression of the frustration they have been and are going through with NCP.

A lot of commentators have been repeatedly talking about self determination which is still miles away. Elections and referendum are chronologically going to take place at different times. I personally think that this is not the right to talk about referendum. Southerners are still going to vote in the next year elections, but wining or losing will not hinder referendum from occurring in 2011. I think it is good sometimes to keep your intentions in you if that is not the right time to do so.

There is an overwhelming advantage if SPLM wins elections next year. And that is redressing/restoring democracy; this is the only archetypical means to aid marginalised folks in Darfur and Nuba mountain. we all know that separating South from North can leave those folks in mess/unrest especially our folks in Nuba mountain who had poured their blood during our arm struggle. Though we are seemingly forgetting this historical fact.
This is the right time for our candidate to travel all over the marginalised areas of Sudan to popularise his Party’s policies of bringing rest and sense of humanity to the country. Separation can only be the last resort if our attempts to bring democracy have been overwhelmingly frustrated by the regime, but now it is too earlier to predict what will happen during elections whether it is going to free and fair or not. Kiir needs to distance himself from lobbying for impunity against Bashir, this is viewed as a complete disgrace by victims and other logical thinkers. He has to maintain bold position like Pagan to face the regime.
