Leader of a former Darfur rebel faction dies in Paris
August 10, 2008 (PARIS) — The leader of a former rebel faction and the state minister for Cabinet Affairs, Abdel Rahman Musa Abakar has died today in the French capital Paris where he was admitted for treatment in one of its hospitals.
The leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement – Free Will faction had joined the national unity government after signing the Declaration of Commitment to the Darfur Peace Agreement on 8 June 2006. During Abuja talks he was a member of the SLM led by Abdel Wahid al-Nur delegation.
The general commander of Free Will, Adam Salah Abubakr Abdallah, said the deceased was complaining about some illness and left for Paris to seek treatment.
Abdallah reaffirmed the commitment of his movement to the Darfur peace Agreement and the signed declaration.
Before to join the Sudan Liberation Movement, the former French language teacher at the University of Khartoum, Abakar, was settled in France.
