UNHCR receives 3 million dollars for the repatriation of Sudanese refugees in Uganda

KAMPALA, Mar 9, 2004 (Xinhua) — The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has received more than 3 million US dollars from the United States and Canada for the repatriation of Sudanese refugees in Uganda.

According to an announcement by the UNHCR office here, the agency has received 2.7 million dollars from the United States and 380,000 dollars from Canada respectively for the repatriation.

The UN agency said the repatriation of the Sudanese refugees is the biggest operation ever if the ongoing peace deal is sealed between the Sudanese government and the rebel Sudanese People’s Liberation Army.

Close to 200,000 Sudanese refugees are living in Uganda.
