March 8, 2024 (WASHINGTON) – U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello is embarking on his first regional trip since his appointment. The focus of the visit will be securing a ceasefire and ensuring humanitarian access in Sudan.

In a short video message released on Friday, Perriello said he was travelling to the region on behalf of the State Department and the White House.

“We feel the urgent need to end this war and get humanitarian access to all the Sudanese people in the next couple of weeks,” he said.

Perriello plans to meet with a wide range of Sudanese stakeholders, including those in refugee camps and other affected areas. He will also meet with African partners and countries that support efforts to end the conflict, such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

On February 26, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken appointed Perriello as Special Envoy for Sudan.
