China appoints a consul in Juba

August 20 (KHARTOUM) — Chinese government has opened a new consulate in Juba the capital of the semi-autonomous southern Sudan where Beijing invests in oil industry.

Sudanese foreign minister Deng Alor on Wednesday met with the newly appointed Chinese General Consul to the government of southern Sudan to be based in Juba, in the presence of the Chinese ambassador to the Sudan.

The Chinese president Hu Jintao during his last year visit to Sudan had pledged to open Juba consulate.

Alor has welcomed the appointment of the new consul to Southern Sudan saying this step reflects the intimate relations between the Sudan and China and that it would boost relations between the two countries.

The minister reviewed with the consul fields of mutual interest in a way that would boost promotion of bilateral relations.

The Chinese Consul to southern Sudan will leave for Juba next week to meet with officials of the government of southern Sudan and take up his mission from there.

Bully, ‘mere sham’ or consul in Juba??
With do your respect, Mr Alor, I can challenge anyone to put their monies where their’s mouth is. My contemporary understanding in relation to the opening of the consul in Juba lies beneath the fact that Bashir time are coming to an end and China want to creates a lasting partnerships, mmmm! well lets called it that way, with Southern Sudan. second point is that 2011 is not far, and clearly no doubt that, South will opted for independent. Looking further more into the consul proposal, its might deceived the South Sudan public about Chinese position with the Khartoum. so it is almost kind of assurance, and as well economic influence could not be views with closed eyes, certainly not!
I doubted that the GOSS will be able to challenge Chinese Government on other sensitive issues like Darfur or Tabet. I do not posed an objection to consulate in Juba, but much more could be asked so we can benefit from China.

China appoints a consul in Juba
IT is Naive to applaud the opening of Chinese consulate in Juba. China armed and supported Al-bashir in his long Jihad war which killed 2 million Southerners and driven out of homes more than 6 million others. Today, Chinese are trying to block international moves for justice in Darfur, and they do not even admit the reality of ongoing genocide in Darfur. China is enemy of the people of the Sudan. And I suggest that Sudanese people should shut down Chinese Embassey in khartoum, and expel their oil companies together with their primative consul out of the South later when president Kiir wins election in 2009.
