August 21, 2008 (BOR TOWN) – Women own business, in organized unions, should be free from taxes for a period of one year, Jonglei Governor Kuol Manyang tells business management training that end today at Dhiam Dhiam Women Hotel in Bor.
The governor’s statement clarifies March 8, 2008 decree that lift dues from women’s own businesses which was reluctantly unimplemented. However, the today’s announcement, made in the certificates issuing ceremony attended by commissioner of Headquarters Gabriel Gai Riem and State Minister of Finance Kengen Jakor, gave powers to him (Kengen) to revive the women unions and implement the decision immediately.
204 women underwent training sponsored by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) on July 28 to August 18 for Business Management Training having completed three weeks training on Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) on July 21, 2008.
CRS project Manager Andrew Bausumo says the program aims at improving livelihood of women in economics growth.
On a related note, the Governor argued women to lead what he calls “next liberation” out of poverty, illiteracy, tribalism, selling of women for cattle (traditional marriages) and unemployment.
“The next phase of the struggle is the reconstruction of our Country,” Governor Kuol said adding that women must invest in business and other productive activities to have equal contribution at maintaining family daily needs.
