Resistance Committees report civilian deaths in RSF attacks in Al-Jazhirah

RSF attacks trigger mass exodus in Al-Jazirah, reminiscent of the El Geneina displacement crisis.

March 30, 2024 (WAD MADANI) – The Wad Madani Resistance Committees in central Sudan accuse the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of killing at least 16 civilians in attacks on villages west of Sennar. This comes amidst widespread condemnation of forced displacement caused by the RSF.

The committees reported earlier on a “massive wave of displacement” following systematic RSF raids in the Al-Hasahisa locality (north) and West Sennar villages (south). These raids allegedly targeted 28 villages, killing 28 civilians between the beginning of Ramadan and March 16th.

A Saturday statement from the resistance committees detailed a recent attack on Wad Abu Amna village by the RSF, resulting in 11 deaths and 16 injuries among residents. A similar attack on Manasra village reportedly left five dead and several wounded.

The statement also mentioned an RSF raid on Basut village, causing an unknown number of casualties outside the village.

The Emergency Lawyers Initiative, a human rights group, reported hundreds of civilians fleeing Al-Hasahisa and South Al-Jazirah localities due to escalating RSF “violations.”

According to the lawyers’ statement, the RSF attacked nine named villages in recent days, killing and wounding unarmed civilians and looting homes, shops, and markets. They further allege sexual violence and unlawful detention.

The Emergency Lawyers strongly condemned the RSF actions, calling them blatant human rights violations. They urged the world to acknowledge the “tragedy” civilians are facing, including assault, killings, forced displacement, and property theft.
