Sudan launches large scale attacks in Darfur – rebels
September 6, 2008 (PARIS) – Sudanese troops launched a large scale attack against rebel positions in northern and western Darfur, a rebel leader stated on Saturday.
Abdel Wahid Mohamed Al-Nur, accused the Sudanese army and its Janjaweed militias of attacking his troops in North Darfur state at Jebel Midoub, Disa, Tibayra,
He further said that a second force targeted the localities of Fanga in northern Jebel Marra while a third force attacked Al-Aaradib Alasharra, Taradonat, Khazan Tonjang and Souk Martal areas in eastern Jebel Marra.
He also said that the assailant troops backed by helicopter gunships and two Antonov planes killed hundreds and forced thousands of civilians to flee their villages.
Al-Nur said SLA fighters succeeded to repel government troops in all the positions of his group, but he regretted the important death tool among civilians.
He also said exact casualty figures were not yet available, however Ibrahim Al-Hillu, speaking from Disa said more than 60 people were killed from the Sudanese army, rebels and civilians.
But Al-Nur said his troops captured eight Sudanese soldiers in Jebel Marra.
The government, through these large scale attacks, means to implement a new reality in the ground by displacing more people from their homeland, the rebel chief said.
The head of the AU-UN peacekeeping mission had proposed a truce during the Holy Ramadan. Rodolphe Adada, appealed on August 31, on the Sudanese government and rebel movements to “cease hostilities, put an end to the suffering of the Darfurians, and pave the way for a lasting peace in this beleaguered region.”
Also the newly appointed Darfur peace mediator, Djibril Bassolé called upon the parties involved in the five year conflict to halt all sort of hostilities in order to create conducive environment for political dialogue.
According to the United Nations, up to 300,000 people have died and more than 2.2 million have fled their homes since the conflict erupted in February 2003. Sudan says 10,000 have been killed.

Sudan launches large scale attacks in Darfur – rebels
Any Rebel trying to hide behind Innocent civilians should be put to death! No offence to the rebels amongst you but thats just MY OPINION! Why you ask? Because north sudan is run by SPLM and North Gov. so they are the majority. It does not mean we eliminate what the minority want, it just means the minority should go round a PEACEFUL route. Any one monitoring the Peace process will notice that both SPLM and the Gov. of the North has tried the peaceful method, yet it appears the REBELS want the WHOLE country!
In addition, would all the people of the South PLEASE CUT THE CRAP! The people in Darfur e.g. Dr. Khalil also killed many southerners, don’t get all friendly and claim that they are fighting fo a cause! What cause? Hiding behind the innocent civilians of darfur! Im Sooooooo NOT impressed!
I think enough with the Bullsh*t! These rebels need to be taken out! Also, the gov. should still try the peaceful method, yet at the same time if the rebels attack they should RETALIATE with the full force of the LAW!
As for the ICC indictment against al bashir, i hate to say this…. But its not going to happen. And dont dream of it happening. Matter of fact i as a black nubian of sudan only have nightmares… WHY? Because USA killed the last black person that “HAD A DREAM”!
God rest the soul of people like MLK and Malcom X!
