Bad weather failed Machar’s meeting with LRA rebel leader
By James Gatdet Dak
September 8, 2008 (JUBA) — Bad weather on Saturday was blamed for postponement of the scheduled meeting between the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Riek Machar Teny, who is the Chief Mediator of the Uganda peace talks and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) leader Joseph Kony at the Sudanese-Congolese border.
This was explained to the press by the Vice President, Machar, who also left for Khartoum on Sunday for a scheduled joint meeting on Monday between the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
The postponed meeting was expected to lead to the signing of the Ugandan Final Peace Agreement by Joseph Kony between his rebel movement and the Ugandan government.
Machar who is the Chairman of the SPLM Political Executive Committee and co-Chairman of the Joint Political Executive Committee between the two peace partners said the joint committee would discuss outstanding issues in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in the national capital. The Vice President of the Republic of Sudan, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha will co-chair the meeting with Machar.
It was not clear when the next visit to Joseph Kony would take place.
Following two years of talks brokered by the Southern Sudan government, The Uganda peace process witnessed a setback when the LRA leader failed to appear to sign the Final Peace Agreement scheduled for April 10, 2008 at Riikwnbwa camp in Western Equatoria state near Sudan-DR Congo border, citing ICC arrest warrants as an obstacle to peace.

“Bad weather failed Machar’s meeting with LRA”! What a joke Machar and his mouthpiece has become! How would you possibly cancel an important meeting, if there was one to begin with that would save thousands of lives because of water drops.

It seems this peace is a blatant wasting of donors’ money and this money could be wisely used to fund other workable or feasible projects which in the end could help the needy. I think the brokering of this peace is experiencing nothing successful than just a dead-end. It is better if Machar minds other things than wasting his time on this peace of which Kony’s party deserves an apparent apathy towards the future of this peace.

I think the money in hands of Goss is getting out of room which means that his pocket is full and he is so prosperous enough, why do we keep wasting money with Riek and his friend Konyi? What will be the benefit from this fool peace instead of SPLA, UPDF, CAR and DRC getting together and set the hips of knoyi on fire. What are we thinking for since we know that LRA has no room to survive like now his supporter al Bashir is in critical condition under the power of his master Ocampo.

the pstponement of the peace process btw Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and Uganda Government was undue because of bad weather on saturday, its quiet clear otherwise if there is no others business behind this delayment.
Mr vice president all southerners are scary about your relationship btw you, Joseph Kony and our great enemy Omer Al-bashir and this relationship have been affected our people, specially in greater Equatoria for long time. its like when we heard of this postponement of the peace process, people was thinking about that maybe you have a planned to do first before these agreement.Biar M Bul

Skipping to comment on the topic above, I appeal to Sudan Tribune authorities to block any articles that are offensive against South Sudan leaders. South Sudaneses net users are misusing the freedom of speech.
The very leaders whom they are tarnishing their images are the “symbols” of our sovereignity and pride. Nothing of such conducts all over the world except with our people.
This should stop. People must be rational when commenting on political issues where “deception” dominates things and this eventually turns out to be facts. This cannot be blamed on leaders. Who among this net workers has done or offered something to Southerners? We must respect our leaders regardless of their shortcomings.

What’s all this palaver about!
What I don’t understand is,how heavily the heavens poured to cause the postponement of such long awaited deal?
I had a feeling in my guts that something was wrong not necessarily that stated rains.
I believe Mr vice president should have an axe to grind in the matter. If not, why easily gave up other than waited for for the rains to stop and continued the discussion?
Mr vp should have an aura of confidence in handling issues like this typical one.
Rains shouldn’t have been the cop out of the matter.

Mr. Yeil!
Let us not open the wounds of the past(1990s)! no one is happy with the killing that took place between Jinubiin those years! Let us leave evrything for God to jurge! I am a Dr. Riek’s Kin, but I didn’t commit no killing, should I also be blamed too for what happened! let us leave what happened in southern Sudan those days to God! he knows more than us, he will jurge wisely more than we can!
