Ethiopia’s new opposition says “dedicated” for a peaceful struggle
September 15, 2008 (ADDIS ABABA) — Unity for Democracy and justice party(Andnet), a political party which recently granted official recognition, said it is devoted to push the agendas of Ethiopia people forward to their objective by a firm and peaceful political struggle.
Unity for Democracy and Justice Party led by Birtukan Medekssa was established on 20 June 2008 to contest the 2010 elections after being diverted as a separate party from Coalition for unity and Democracy (CUD), biggest opposition party.
The new party is mostly based on the parties that constituted Coalition for Unity and Democracy.
In a statement sent to Sudan Tribune issuing best wishes of the New Year, the party said No matter how much the division gave negative signals to supporters, learning from past problems and with new spirit in the new Ethiopian year of 2001 the party is fully dedicated to bring the “rule of power to the people”.
The party called on Ethiopian people and supporters in Diaspora to rejoin their struggle and to stand by the party’s peaceful struggle so demands of society will be met and past promises and goals of the group will be attained.
The party also said it attaches the contributions and scarifies Ethiopians in Diaspora paid over the past and called on them to renew their contribution along with the party in the new journey of building a democratic and prosperous nation.
Unity for Democracy and justice party wished the New Ethiopian Year to be a year of better peaceful struggle is visualized and a year of fruit full political and socio-economic growth is grasped.
