Torit Interim Assembly closed indefinitely

By Isaac Vuni

September 22, 2008 (NAIROBI) — The state authority that barred lawmakers from leaving Torit capital has closed state Interim Assembly of Eastern Equatoria indefinitely.

The unexpected decision of appointed governor Alosio Emor Ojetuk, who failed SPLM national convection chairmanship to Louis Lobong of Kapoeta last May, was taken at time when lawmakers wanted to impeach Speaker Sabina Darious for second time on alleged embezzlement involving her closest relative in assembly besides occupying office illegally.

The lawmakers reported to have closed parliament office doors barring their speaker from entering and our follow-up telephone call to Torit today mentions that she is hiding within Torit but former MP Adelino Opi alleged that Hon. Sabina has sneaked to Juba.

Information from Torit outlined the major problems facing the Speaker was management and disbursement of assembly fund especially emolument to members she regards loyal to her.

Sabina was the second female governor of Sudan after Agnes Lokudu of Central Equatoria state and Governor Jema Kumba of Western Equatoria being the third.

I have been following the political events in Eastern Equatoria state with great concern, becasue some of our politicians want to confirm what some people used to alleged that Southern Sudanese are unable to rule themselves. What kind of political orientation does some of our politicians really want to behave responsibly?. How can the State legislative assembly the law making body be closed indefinitely and the top government official be forced to hide themselves in people’s houses like a game of street children. Our people should learn how to reslove the political and administrative problems diplomatically. What a shame is this?
