June 2, 2024 (EL FASHER)  – The Ministry of Health in North Darfur State has reported a sharp increase in casualties and injuries over the past two days due to ongoing clashes between the army, supported by allied armed movements and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher.

Since May 10, North Darfur State has been embroiled in fierce battles, resulting in a high number of civilian deaths and the displacement of thousands from El Fasher.

Ibrahim Abdullah Khater, Director General of the Ministry of Health in North Darfur State, informed Sudan Tribune that the recent clashes in El Fasher have led to approximately 84 injuries and 45 deaths in the last two days alone.

Combined with earlier casualties, the total number of injured has reached 234, with the death toll at 82.

Khater emphasized that the majority of the casualties were women, children, and the elderly, accusing the RSF of committing humanitarian crimes against unarmed civilians.

“These crimes and atrocities will only strengthen our resolve and commitment to our cause and serving our people,” he declared. “We will fight with the knowledge and power we possess and bring shame to those who incite these killings both internally and externally.”

He also praised the extraordinary efforts of medical staff working under dire conditions in the state, adding, “There are no words to fully express our gratitude to the doctors for treating the injured in El Fasher.”

Since the start of the conflict in El Fasher, several medical facilities have been targeted. An air raid by the army disabled the Babiker Nahar Children’s Center, and the southern hospital has been repeatedly targeted by the RSF.
