Sudan condemns Al-Jazirah massacre, demands end to international contacts

June 6, 2024 (PORT SUDAN) – In response to the Wad Al-Noura massacre, where 180 civilians were killed, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared on Thursday that it will not tolerate further contact between countries and organizations with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The RSF launched a violent attack on the village of Wad Al-Nura in Al Jazirah state on Wednesday, using heavy artillery. This massacre has drawn widespread condemnation, with the United Nations calling for an investigation and accountability.

In a statement to Sudan Tribune, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the “heinous massacre committed by the Janjaweed militia” and blamed the international community’s leniency towards the RSF and its sponsors for such atrocities.

The ministry declared that any contact with the RSF by countries claiming to support peace in Sudan or by officials of international and regional organizations is now unacceptable. The Sudanese government demands that the “Wad Al-Noura” massacre be a turning point, leading to the RSF being classified as a terrorist group and treated accordingly.

The statement also emphasized that governments and entities providing the RSF with weapons, equipment, money, or logistical support are complicit in its crimes and will face consequences. Additionally, those offering platforms for RSF leaders and members to conduct political activities are considered partners in their crimes.

The RSF enjoys relations and support from several African countries, including Ethiopia and Kenya. Sudanese authorities also accuse the UAE and Chad of providing facilities and military aid to the RSF, which has strained diplomatic relations and led to the mutual expulsion of ambassadors.
