RSF continued shelling in El-Fasher kills civilians, targets another hospital

Iqra Hospital in El Fasher destroyed by RSF shells on June 25, 2024

25 June 2024 (EL-FASHER) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intensified its assault on El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, killing at least five civilians in artillery shelling on the Abu Shouk displacement camp. The RSF also targeted Iqra Hospital, further crippling the city’s healthcare system.

This latest attack follows a two-month siege and relentless shelling campaign by the RSF, which began in mid-May and has displaced thousands.

Adam Rijal, spokesperson for the General Coordination for Displaced People and Refugees, confirmed the deaths and injuries in Abu Shouk, warning that the toll could rise due to communication blackouts in the area.

The camp, home to nearly 400,000 displaced people, has witnessed an exodus of residents seeking refuge in Tawila and Jebel Marra.

The Governor of Darfur, Minni Minawi, condemned the RSF’s “Nazi-like” tactics on the “X” platform, highlighting the militia’s continued systematic targeting of hospitals in the capital of North Darfur state.

This sustained assault has severely disrupted healthcare services, endangering lives and causing environmental damage.

Minawi’s message to the international community underscored the dire situation in El-Fasher, calling out the RSF’s hypocrisy in claiming to champion democracy.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health in North Darfur, Ibrahim Abdallah Khater, revealed that the shelling has forced the closure of the dialysis centre, jeopardizing the lives of 34 kidney patients at risk.

The health sector in El-Fasher is nearing collapse as the RSF continues to target medical facilities. The southern hospital in El-Fasher and the Saudi Hospital have also been attacked, further exacerbating the crisis.
