Unity state ranks first in school results in Southern Sudan

By James Gatdet Dak

October 3, 2008 (JUBA) – Unity state – the Sudan’s most oil producing state – ranks first according to secondary school examinations results declared for the ten states of Southern Sudan, announced the Governor of the state, Taban Deng Gai.

Governor_Taban_Deng.jpgThe 2008’s Sudan secondary school examinations results were recently declared by the Federal Ministry of Education and its counter-part in the Government of Southern Sudan, putting Unity state in the 1st position in the South and the 6th position in the whole of Sudan’s 26 states.

In his presentation to the 6th Governors’ Forum which concluded on Thursday in Juba, Governor Gai enumerated achievements his government scored during the year, citing among others enormous performances in the field of education in the state.

He also said his state government this year succeeded to build several additional schools and enrolled more than 150,000 children to school across the state.

Gai reportedly had been recruiting for the last three years hundreds of teachers from the Republic of Kenya and deploying them in various schools in the state’s capital, Bentiu, and across various counties.

Last month, Governor of Central Equatoria state, Clement Wani Konga, announced that his state government would also be recruiting teachers from the Republic of Uganda to teach science subjects in the state.

Governor Gai also presented on progress in other sectors of development in the state which were applauded by the participants of the Forum.

Good job governor Taban Deng Gai. That is an excellent report to let your counterparts know that you have defeated all the Southern States in term of education. Other governors may claimed that your state extra 2% of oil revenue produced in your state has just did that, but it is your good idea that you brought in the well educated foreign teachers to teach the future leaders of Sudan. I think other governors never know the number of children enrolled in schools from their states because they are thinking on how to get money from children and their parents to use it in unspecified state development(pockets).

Taban, keep up your good work.
