Relief, rehabilitation call for western Sudan launched
KHARTOUM, 13 March 13, 2004 (SUNA) — Network of Darfur Voluntary Organizations for Peace and Development launched Friday a call for peace, relief and rehabilitation of Greater Darfur States (GDS), in order to attract support and assistance to the people affected by the recent incidents.
Chairman of the Executive Committee of Darfur Network, Dr Yusuf Bakhit Idris, said in a statement to Suna, the call of Darfur focuses on the aspects of peace, humanitarian situations, rehabilitation, social peace as well as the socio-economic development in GDS.
In this regard, Dr Idris called on the voluntary organizations to take part in this national campaign, expected to involve the governmental institutions and benevolent people, explaining that the call mobilizes the Sudanese people and institutions to rehabilitate villages and institutions of GDS to pave the way for repatriation of the displaced people to their homes.
Dr Idris further stressed the role of the civil society organizations in the peace and rehabilitation of GDS, urging the Sudanese expatriates, and donors to support the call of Darfur.
