Democratic Revolutionary Current declines Cairo meeting, calls for clear peace vision
July 3, 2024 (CAIRO) – The SPLM-N Democratic Revolutionary Current (DRC), declined an invitation from the Egyptian government to a meeting aimed at unifying Sudanese political forces on ending the war and restoring civilian rule.
According to multiple sources, Buthaina Dinar, DRC Vice President sent a letter to the leadership of the Coordination of the Democratic Civil Forces “Tagadum” urging to develop a clear vision for the political process before engaging in such discussions.
The sources confirmed to Sudan Tribune that Dinar, apologized for not attending the Cairo meeting. She emphasized the need for the coalition to prioritize formulating a clear vision for ending the war, in line with the agreements made during the founding conference.
Dinar also stressed the importance of resolving internal organizational matters and establishing leadership structures, including a committee to oversee the political process, before engaging in broader initiatives to unite Sudanese civilian forces.
Following the conclusion of its founding conference in Addis Ababa on May 31st, Tagadum announced the approval of a political vision centred on “stopping and ending the war, establishing the state, and completing the revolution.”
The coalition also declared its intention to initiate preparations for a roundtable discussion to unify the stance of pro-revolution, anti-war, and pro-democracy forces.
The final statement of the founding conference emphasized the importance of prioritizing these tasks to prevent the political process from being exploited to “revive the old regime and undermine the December revolution.”
Tagadum leadership informed its members of the invitation by the Egyptian government to participate in a meeting on July 6th and 7th to discuss ending the war and addressing humanitarian issues. The coalition announced on July 1st that its components would participate in the Cairo meeting alongside numerous other political forces.
The Cairo meeting will include other political forces member of the Democratic Bloc that support the Sudanese army in the war against he Rapid Support Forces.
