No Southern reservations about Sudan – Egypt integration project: minister
KUWAIT, March 14, 2004 (MENA) — Sudanese Information Minister al-Zahawi Ibrahim Malik dismissed the presence of any reservations by political parties in southern Sudan about Sudan-Egypt integration project.
In an interview with Al-Ra’y al-Amm published Sunday, he pointed out that the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) could never object to integration with Egypt because it has Egypt’s full understanding.
He underlined in this respect that the whole issue is a matter of interests.
He hoped that integration between Egypt and Sudan would be a nucleus for an Arab common market.
He said that integration projects are many and cover various fields.
On the peace negotiations between Khartoum and SPLM, he expected that a final peace agreement would be reached following the ongoing round of talks.
He said that there were no American dictation’s in the projected peace agreement. The US plays a mediation role similar to IGAD mediators, he added.
