July 9, 2024 (JUBA) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir has appealed to the country’s citizens to focus on development and improving economic growth.

He was speaking at the official inauguration of the new Bank of South Sudan’s (BoSS) headquarters in the capital, Juba on Monday.

“I encourage the staff of the Bank of South Sudan to cooperate with the staff of our institution to advance the positives of the government,” said Kiir.

He added, “I urge other government institutions and citizens to focus on development and improving economic growth.”

According to the South Sudanese leader, a strong banking sector is key in nurturing economic growth and ensuring financial stability across the nation.

He also acknowledged the Central Bank’s role in regulating the banking industry.

The governor of the Central Bank, Dr. James Alic Garang thanked the government for continuously supporting building of a credible financial institution.

He expressed optimism that the new bank headquarters will enhance operational efficiency and as well as expand public access to essential banking services.

The new bank headquarters was constructed by China’s Shandong High Speed; a state-owned capital investment company with a mission to become a world-class infrastructure service provider.

Also present at the occasion was the Chinese Ambassador Ma Qiang, who stressed the importance of strong partnerships between South Sudan and China.

China is currently South Sudan’s largest trading partner. In South Sudan, Chinese companies participate in various economic sectors including engineering, construction, telecommunications, healthcare, hotels, restaurant, and retail.
