RSF drones target military sites in White Nile State, Sudan

Drone downed by the Sudanese army in Shendi on April 23, 2024

July 12, 2024 (KOSTI) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), on Friday, launched a drone attack on several military targets in the White Nile State of southern Sudan, utilising four unmanned aerial vehicles.

This marks the second drone attack launched by the RSF on the White Nile State, which is besieged on three sides.

According to local sources speaking to Sudan Tribune, the Sudanese army’s air defences shot down an RSF drone targeting the headquarters of the army’s 18th Division in Kosti. The attack caused no damage to the army’s command centre in the state.

The same sources reported that two drones targeted the city of Rabak, and another drone attempted to attack the Kenana air base. However, the army’s ground defences intercepted and shot down the drones near Village 5 in Kenana.

Sources indicated that the drones used today appeared different from those used in previous attacks, both in the sound of their flight and their increased speed.

Yesterday, Thursday, RSF drones attacked the headquarters of the state government in Gedaref, eastern Sudan, during a celebration held by the popular resistance in support of the army.

This is the second time Gedaref has been targeted. On April 9, drones attacked the headquarters of the General Intelligence Service in Gedaref, as well as police and judicial facilities.

In previous instances, the RSF launched drone attacks on a Ramadan iftar for the Al-Bara bin Malik Brigade, which supports the army, resulting in over 10 deaths.

Similar drone attacks have occurred in Shendi in the River Nile state, Merowe in the Northern state, and the city of Sennar in Sennar state.
