Unknown gunman shoots dead Kenyan man in Rumbek
October 10, 2008 (RUMBEK) – Unknown gunman in Rumbek, the capital of Lakes state, on Thursday killed a Kenyan man who had been resident in Rumbek for almost one year.
He was shot dead at around 11:10 p.m. in Rumbek near a bar in the residential area of Canal hotel, which hosts different foreigners for the weekend.
A Lakes state policeman described that Samuel Gachau was shot dead in the head by an unknown gunman while walking home with his girlfriend after some slight clashes between him and people in a bar.
One girl was reportedly raped at the same place where Gachau was shot. The raped girl detailed that she “was raped by a group of men in military uniform and the rest were in non-uniform,” but she also added that she will not be able to identify who raped her because it was night and she also escaped at the same time as she witnessed the death of friendly Samuel Gachau.
Last week, Lakes state ministries of health launched a campaign to close down all local private clinics belonging to foreigners in Lakes state.

The fatal shot of Samuel Gachau, is the latest highlight to the strings of gun death in Southern Sudan to day. The gun crime is so rampant that I am afraid the society will be numb to this culture if it is not addressed very urgently.
Southern Sudan can no longer afford to lose the people in the rate it is doing now, we need personnel to initiate development, business people to employ locals and better our economy, tourists to bring foreign wealth (cash and goods), residing foreigners to learn from.
May the authorities take the lead in the war against crime and bring culprits to justice without bias. According to the article, the armed gang who are also in military uniforms have abused their positions by targeting the helpless girl for their sexual sadism and maybe as a result killed Samuel Gachau; seen to them as a competitor. This is a very sad turn of affairs in this beloved country.
It is a courtesy to be accepting of everyone and work hardwork for betterment of oneself rather than resorting to crime. My condolences to Samuel’s family and friends and heartfelt to the raped girl, don’t be shamed by it young lady for it is not your fault. May the offenders be brought to justice.

IT is very regretful to hear the news of death, rapping and all sought of evil doing happening in Rumbek.The rest of states in southern Sudan are enjoying the CPA very well looking ahead of their development and so forth but in Rumbek or Lakes state they are falling behind invery thing.Rumbek is a blessed town since during colonial rule through two movements Anya-nya 1 and SPLA/M.IT USED TO BE THE MAIN SOURCE OF INCOME IN TERM OF LOGISTICS AND MANPOWER AS WELL. Today however, is it a curse or some one behind it.Why saying this, because all crimes happening now adays in Rumbek shows clearly the government of State or even the GoSS pay very low attention to it…!! Now they are killing themselves very now and then reaching out as well to kill inocent forieners like Samuel Gachau and more will happen.WHY WHY GOD…. LET IT BE THE TIME OF JOY FOR ALL SOUTHERNERS.

I think this incident has nothing to do with level of crime in Lake State. Believe me this man has some question to be asking regarding his death, but since he is dead no one can answer those questions. I think many people who have attended the party have all gone back with no problem. It is him and her friend and this could be link with the cause of the death. b’se he is a foreigner who has been there for full year and been found working with a girl at night, this alone may put one to ask the question, was that girl from Kenya or she is a Dinka Girl? if this Girl a Dinka girl then this man is definitely has to die b’se he acts against the law of the land. in Dinka you can not walk with a girl whom you have not married at night this is a total crime punishable by death or serious injuries. so if the Kenyan guy has not been told about the place then that may have been the factor which contributed to his death, and this one might serve as a lesson to other foreigner whom might I have those ill thinking of lingering around with indigenous girls who are the pride of their parents b’se of NGOs Money or fake money acquires through fake business they do within the area. now my advice to the foreigners and any other person whom may have ill intention to play with girls in Rumbek or other Dinka Town is that, you must think twice before you dig your own grave, or otherwise the consequences will be more outraged.
