Juba releases detained Sudanese editor

October 15, 2008 (JUBA) — Southern Sudanese authorities have released a newspaper editor after arresting him during three days on publication of an article about corruption.

Nhial Bol had been arrested Friday after he published an article discussing high salaries paid to officials in South Sudan’s ministry of legal affairs.

The editor of the Citizen daily said he had been accused of defamation and spreading false information by government officials.

The Sudanese journalists union and the Paris based Reporters Without Borders called for the release of the editor of the English-language daily.

Bol said he was released late on Sunday.
