The Youth and Sports ministry, in a statement, said fans are expected to gather in Central Equatoria, Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Eastern Equatoria, Western Equatoria, Jonglei, Lakes, Warrap, Western Bahr El Ghazal, Unity State and Abyei administrative area to follow live basketball competitions involving south Sudan’s national team.
The Bright Stars of South Sudan will face a number of countries during the competition barely week from now.
“The government, in collaboration with MTN South Sudan and South Sudan Basketball Federation is pleased to announce that it is providing viewing screens for Olympic games in nine states and one administrative area,” Youth and Sports minister, Joseph Geng Akech said in a statement.
The government urged the public to watch South Sudan play against Puerto Rico on July 28, United States on July 31 and will face Serbia on August 3.
The minister commended Trinity Energy company and the mobile telecom operator, MTN for providing the viewing screens for fan.
He described the collaboration as the honor of the national basketball.
“In line with our existing partnerships, the ministry wishes to appreciate Trinity Energy for putting proportional billboards in Juba in honor of our basketball stars and MTN South Sudan for providing public screens”, stressed the statement from the minister.
Akech traveled to Paris on Thursday, July 25, 2024, with other ministers and senior officials from the Ministry of Youth, Cultural Heritage and Museum.
A statement from the ministry says that South Sudanese at home will have a chance to watch games in public squares of their state headquarters.
This will be aided by MTN South Sudan.
Akech believes that sports can be a source of national unity, social cohesion and an opportunity to represent the country in the international area, becoming a diplomatic tool in shaping foreign relations with other countries in the world.
