Police kill Sudanese on Egypt-Israel border

October 22, 2008 (EL ARISH) – A Sudanese young man was killed today by the Egyptian police while he was trying to cross to Israel illegally.

Abdel Qader Abdel Hamid, was shot dead by the Egyptian police 13 km (eight miles) south of the Rafah crossing point between Egypt and Gaza. Two others Sudanese were detained and one of them was injured during the attempt.

Abdel Hamid is the 25th African migrant killed by Egyptian security on the border with Israel this year.

Last August another young Sudanese was killed by the Egyptian police under similar circumstances in the same area.
