Second group of the Bangladeshi troops arrives to Darfur

October 25, 2008 (NYALA) — The second batch of the Bangladeshi troops arrived today to the capital of south Darfur to boot logistical teams of the African Union- United Nations Hybrid Operation In Darfur (UNAMID).

Bangladeshi_unit.jpg162 peacekeepers of the Bangladeshi Multi Role Logistic Unit arrived in Nyala, today Saturday 25 October 2008, bringing the total number of the Bangladeshi Unit to 348.

The first group comprising of 163 personnel arrived on Thursday 23 October 2008, an advance party consisting of 23 personnel arrived last month.

Today’s deployment brings the total number of UNAMID forces – slated to eventually become the world body’s largest peacekeeping operation with some 26,000 personnel at full strength – to 9079 troops and police officers on the ground.
