RSF attack displaces over 200 households in Sennar state

August 18, 2024 (GALGANI) – An estimated 233 households were displaced in Sudan’s Sennar state between 13 and 18 August 2024 following an attack reportedly carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The incident occurred in Galgani town, Abu Hujar locality of Sennar State.

Displaced households, data provided by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) shows, sought shelter in locations across Ed Damazine, Blue Nile.

Also, widespread telecommunication outages across Sennar hindered the ability of Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) field teams to provide continuous updates.

IOM, however, says it will continue to monitor the developments closely as network coverage permits and will provide regular updates on displacement and population mobility across Sudan.

Meanwhile, an estimated total of 10,710,015 internally displaced persons were displaced to 8,790 locations, in 183 localities, across all the 18 states in Sudan.

Since mid-April last year, an estimated 7,914,235 individuals were displaced internally within Sudan, while 27 per cent of IDPs who were initially displaced prior to the onset of the current conflict experienced secondary displacement.

Reports also indicate that 2,312,968 individuals have crossed borders into neighbouring countries since 15 April 2023., with the top states of origin among IDPs were Khartoum (34%), South Darfur (19%) and North Darfur (14%).

The states hosting the most IDPs are South Darfur (17%), North Darfur (14%) and Central Darfur (8%), with children under 18 accounting for approximately (52%).
