South Sudan’s Kiir sacks minister Bakosoro

August 19, 2024 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir has sacked Presidential Affairs minister Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro barely a year after he was appointed to the position.

Kiir, in the decree announced on the state owned television (SSBC) on Monday,  appointed Chol Mawut Ajonga as Bakosoro’s successor.

No reasons were given for the change,

Bakosoro, formerly the Minister for Public Service in the national unity government, is an ally of President Kiir.

His appointment was largely viewed as a strategic move by Kiir’s ruling party (SPLM) in their quest for support in Western Equatoria state ahead of general elections In December 2024 .
