Sudan seeks to rally India support against Bashir indictment
October 27, 2008 (KHARTOUM) – A Sudanese official will travel to India tomorrow and deliver a message from embattled president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir to his Indian counterpart.
Sudan news agency (SUNA) reported that the letter carried by minister of finance and economy Awad Al-Jaz, will focus on the row created by the International Criminal Court (ICC) move to indict president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir.
The news agency said that Al-Jaz will brief Indian officials on Sudan’s efforts to resolve the Darfur crisis.
The ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo Ocampo announced in mid-July that he requested an arrest warrant for Al-Bashir on 10 counts of war crimes and genocide.
The African Union, Arab League, Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) called for invoking Article 16 which allows the UNSC to suspend the ICC prosecutions in any case for a period of 12 months that can be renewed indefinitely.
India as a leading member of the NAM supported a draft resolution condemning the indictment of Al-Bashir.
Last July Sudan’s ambassador to India Abdel Rahman Mohamed Bakhiet told reporters that his country needs India’s support given “its global clout”.
“India has the width and influence internationally. So we can count on it” he said.
The Sudanese diplomat said he met with Indian officials who expressed “concern”.
But a source in Khartoum told Sudan Tribune that Al-Jaz’s visit was previously rescheduled after Indian officials appeared reluctant to receive him.
India and Sudan enjoy strong economic relations particularly in petroleum sector.

Sudan seeks to rally India support against Bashir indictment
Oh God, look at NCP Members deceiving the world that they went to save Bashir from ICC!!!.Minister of finance and economy Awad Al-Jaz took alot of money aboard buying their supports against the ICC yet we have suffering Sudanese who need that money. Please Minister you are advice to stop that childish move.Mr.Deng Alor minister of foriegn affairs was right when he disagreed those officials taking money aboard for buying supporters against ICC,SPLM Secretary Pagan mentioned the same but NCP became unhappy.During the Civil War Ali Hass did the same buying Suotherners to turn against their own future movement which he succeeded to certain extend but later everyone came to knew the devile’ ways and repended. I for one the world will come to know that is wrong or right after serious investigations concerning all those files and the money used for buying supporters shall be a worst if Bashir found guilty of the mentioned criminal activities. So be warn Mr. Minister for your vision without action because you are passing time.
