Aid convoys deliver more food to over 110,000 in Sudan via Chad border
August 27, 2024 (NEW YORK) – The United Nations announced on Tuesday that 38 trucks carrying vital humanitarian aid have crossed Sudan from Chad through the Adre border crossing, providing relief to more than 110,000 people.
The convoys, which passed through as of Monday, contained essential food and nutrition supplies, offering a lifeline to those affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
“This is a positive development in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where millions are in need of assistance,” said a UN spokesperson.
The UN emphasized that while these deliveries represent progress, further aid is urgently needed to reach all those impacted by the conflict. The situation remains dire, with widespread displacement, food insecurity, and a crippled healthcare system.
On August 21, 131 WFP trucks reached Kereneik of West Darfur state loaded with food for 13,000 people. This humanitarian assistance was the first to enter the war-torn region through Adré crossing from Chad after a six-month closure.
