August 30, 2024 (OMDURMAN) – The Sudanese Health Ministry reported on Friday that seven people were killed and 25 others wounded in artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on several areas in north and west Omdurman.

The ministry said the RSF targeted areas in the Karari locality from their positions in Khartoum Bahri and southwest Omdurman, extending the bombardment to include the northern countryside of Omdurman and the city’s northwestern areas.

A statement from the ministry confirmed that the shelling hit civilian-populated areas in Karari and other parts of Omdurman. The attack included the Bir Hammad market west of Umm Badda locality, the only market in the area and often crowded with civilians. The shelling also impacted the Bant market in Omdurman, the Chinese hospital, and the Al-Thawra suburb.

“The shelling resulted in the deaths of seven civilians, including three women and a child, and injured 25 others, most of them with limb amputations,” the statement said. It detailed that Al-Naw Hospital received 17 casualties from Bir Hammad, three from Al-Huda Prison Housing, two unidentified individuals, and one each from neighbourhoods 14 and 31 in Al-Thawra.

The Military Medical Corps Hospital also reported receiving 10 casualties, including three fatalities.

Earlier on Friday, the Sudanese army conducted a concentrated artillery bombardment from its positions north of Omdurman, targeting RSF gatherings in Khartoum, Khartoum Bahri, and west and south Omdurman, where RSF forces remain stationed in the Umm Badda locality and the Salha suburb.
