Sudan and Chad diplomats arrive to their embassies Tuesday

November 3, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Chadian and ambassadors will arrive tomorrow to their respective posts in Khartoum and N’djamena announcing the effective resumption of diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Sudanese foreign ministry official said Monday that a Libyan airplane will bring the Chadian ambassador, Mahmat Bahr Eddine and his diplomatic team to Khartoum and will transport the Sudanese ambassador Abdelallah Al-Sheikh and his diplomatic staff to N’djamena.

Sudan severed diplomatic relations with Chad last May after accusing its neighbor of supporting a rebel raid on the Sudanese capital. However the tension between the two countries started since 2005 and each capital says the other is backing rebel movements.

According to Dakar agreement, the there is a committee tasked with the implementation of the deal. Also the African Union decided in its last summit of Sharam Sheikh in Egypt last July to probe the causes of the tension between the countries.

The members of the African Union Fact-finding committee held a meeting today with the undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mutrif Sidiq, on how to address the root causes that led to tensions in relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Ahmed told reporters that Mutrif provided clarification on the questions and queries made by the Commission

Also, Pierre Buyoya the Chairman of the fact-finding committee and the former President Rwanda said that Committee’s task is to collect information about the reality of this relationship at the moment and evaluate all initiatives that aim to smooth relations between the two countries in addition to drawing up recommendations on the future of relations and the elimination of tension.
