October 2, 2024 (KHARTOUM) – A Sudanese army spokesperson on Wednesday denied allegations that its forces carried out extrajudicial killings of dozens of civilian volunteers in Khartoum Bahri, accused of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The denial follows the circulation of a graphic video on social media purportedly showing the aftermath of the executions. The video depicts several bodies lying in pools of blood alongside men, some in military uniform, others in civilian clothes, who threaten to kill anyone supporting the RSF. Sources claim the incident occurred in the Al-Halfaya suburb, recently captured by the army.

“Claims of the army’s involvement in the killing of humanitarian volunteers in Bahri are false fabrications spread by the militia and their political allies,” Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah, army spokesperson, told Sudan Tribune.

He accused the Tagadum coalition of democratic civil forces of orchestrating a smear campaign against the army and echoing RSF propaganda.

The video has sparked widespread condemnation from political factions, armed groups, and human rights organizations, who are demanding an independent investigation and prosecution of those responsible.

The incident follows a major army offensive launched on September 26, which resulted in significant territorial gains in Khartoum Bahri, including control of key neighbourhoods like Al-Kadru, Al-Halfaya, Al-Darushab, and Al-Azariqab.
