October 8, 2024 (EL OBEID) – At least 20 people were killed and others wounded in an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Tuesday on the village of Al-Damukiya, east of Khor Taqat area in Shikan locality, in the countryside of El Obeid, North Kordofan state.

An eyewitness from Al-Damukiya told Sudan Tribune that the RSF attacked the village on Monday evening using 30 motorcycles.

The attack resulted in the death of 20 people and the injury of 22 others, including elderly people and children, who were transferred to the El Obeid Hospital for treatment.

In the wake of these tragic events, several volunteers launched appeals on social media to collect donations to cover the costs of necessary surgeries for the injured.

The eyewitness added that the RSF has been attacking villages around El Obeid in recent weeks, noting that some villages resort to mobilizing armed residents to protect themselves from the attacks, which primarily aim to loot livestock and vehicles.

The witness explained that the RSF also targets vehicles transporting citizens to weekly markets in the El Obeid countryside and North Kordofan villages, where they loot money and belongings, including phones and cars. When citizens try to resist these attacks, they are shot.

The Sudanese army controls El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, while the RSF has seized positions on the western side of the city. Armed clashes erupt from time to time between the two sides, including artillery shelling and direct clashes.
