Sudanese army conducts airstrikes on RFS positions in Khartoum

October 9, 2024 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s military launched a wave of airstrikes and drone attacks on Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions across Khartoum state on Wednesday, marking an escalation in the ongoing conflict.

The Sudanese Air Force targeted RSF concentrations in Khartoum Bahri and central Khartoum, while drones struck RSF sites in the Al-Mugran area west of the capital and on Tuti Island, situated at the confluence of the Blue and White Niles.

Clashes involving heavy and light weapons were also reported in Al-Mugran and near the Armored Corps headquarters south of Khartoum. Fighter jets bombarded several locations in southern Khartoum, including Riyadh city and areas surrounding the Armored Corps. Strikes also hit the Al-Jarif district in eastern Khartoum and the central Arab market area.

Sources indicated that the air force targeted suspected RSF sniper positions in the Qatari Diar buildings in southern Khartoum Bahri, overlooking the presidential palace and government headquarters across the Blue Nile.

Tuti Island, under RSF control since June 2023, also came under drone attack. This follows a ground operation by the army two weeks ago, which saw troops advance from Omdurman across the White Nile bridges towards Al-Mugran and Tuti Island.

Amidst the airstrikes, artillery exchanges continued.

The RSF shelled the village of Al-Dim Khor Omar north of Karari in Omdurman, killing a woman and wounding several civilians. The army retaliated with artillery fire from positions north of Omdurman, targeting RSF-controlled areas in southern Khartoum and East Nile locality.
