NCP threatens to pull out from Lakes state government

By Manyang Mayom

November 19, 2008 (RUMBEK) — The members of the National Congress party (NCP) in Lakes state Wednesday threatened the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party to pull out from the state government.

NCP, the ruling party of Sudan since a coup in 1989, is a minority in the semi-autonomous region of Southern Sudan, which is dominated by the SPLM. and SPLM members disagree over in Lakes state Assembly during the process of swearing ceremony of the three members of NCP on Wednesday.

Four members of the 48-member legislative assembly are formally NCP members: Kosea Kedit Muortat, Lino Alony Mon, Arkanjelo Deng Kuok and Macuor Marial Wol.

Disagreement came when Lakes state Assembly Speaker Isaiah Alier Mashinkok requested a judge to swear in three members of NCP to take over positions in Lakes parliament. The Lakes state Acting Governor, Awan Guol Riak, who is also the minister of local government and the law enforcement agency downplayed the request of the Speaker.

A key NCP player in Lakes state who requested not to be named told Sudan Tribune by phone, “We the members of NCP in Lakes state Assembly must pull out of this Lakes state government because we are not seeing partnership working well in this state in particular.”

The NCP figure also added that in 2006, the key NCP minister Khamis Abdulatif was discouraged in the same way as these present events, until he resigned from his ministerial post.

The current head position of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal resources belonged to NCP in Lakes, but Governor Daniel Awet took over the position to give it to an SPLM member without informing NCP in Khartoum, said the politician.

“He has undermined the party of NCP in many issues including rallies, we are not involved to have a voice although SPLM members always throw upon us bad statements daily,” she said.

The NCP in Lakes state works in partnership with SPLM party as mandated in the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement, but there are big differences with the SPLM party in Lakes.

“We invited SPLM state secretary and Governor Awet in 2006 to open our office but both of them rejected our invitation and they termed our invitation as a ‘political move’ against the SPLM interest in Lakes state,” added the NCP player.

“We are now operating in Lakes state government without an office. Awet totally rejected to officially open the NCP office in Lakes state since 2006 when Awet took over the Lakes state leadership after former Governor John Lat Zechariah fell from power,” said the NCP member.

You use commonsense sons of bashir!

What you are talking about here is completely nonesense! You are not yet quench your long appetite of rule since your uncle bashir took over the power in 1989. If you have not lose your senses, how is that Government of National Unity is now run! How many seats do the SPLM have! Are ministerial post been divided equally amont the GNU partners!

It is all crap! Threatening the Lake Government of pulling out is a monger smear way of destructing the elections that are coming in 2009!

Use your logicallity before you express your feelings!

Maintain the spirit governor. They have no reason of execising their political influence for NCP after failing to see their beloved ones suffering at the hands of NCP. They are perpetrators and enemies of harmony in the South.

    First reaon!

Members of NCP must know that NCP is a political party in Southern Sudan and must operate within the laws of the government of Southern Sudan. The attitude of complaining always to Khartoum tells people that NCP is actually a party of Khartoum.

    Wow

I am surprise that there are a lot of Dinkas who are still pro-arabs in Lakes state. I though Arabs have been bribings other tribes as many young boys always sing at this web.

Well let them pull out and join their master Bashier in Khartoum where Dinnars are printed.

I hope I put it good.

    God bless.

Well, the NCP officials in Lakes State should know that political blackmailing won`t work either. They should rather resort to peaceful negotiations, dependent on the reasons the governor of Lakes State, Daniel A. Akot, decisively rejected the establishment of the NCP Office in his State. Period!

    Good luck
