South Sudan discusses North-South boundary process

By James Gatdet Dak

November 21, 2008 (JUBA) – The Council of Ministers of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) on Friday held a lengthy discussion on the process of the North-South boundary demarcation.

In a briefing chaired by the First Vice President of Sudan and President of the semi-autonomous GoSS, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Council directed the Ministerial Committee formed earlier to assist and work closely with the GoSS component of the North-South Border Technical Committee on issues that might need political guidance.

Assisted by the GoSS component of the Border Committee, the Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, briefed the cabinet on the demarcation process three days after the Government organized an information sharing workshop on the issue.

In accordance with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the North-South boundary would be demarcated as it stood on January 1, 1956; the day on which Sudan gained its independence from Anglo-Egyptian colonial administration.

The process has been going on for the last two years.

The chairperson of the Committee, Engineer Riek Degol Juer, said the joint Border Committee is expected to present its final report or findings to the Khartoum-based Presidency within the next three weeks.

If the paper mapping report is endorsed by the Presidency, the next phase would be the daunting task of demarcating the more than 1,000 kilometers long physical boundary on the ground.

    Why it took so long?

This issue of border demacation is very important for South Sudan in particular. Why its took so long! SPLM leadership needs to put more effort into this issue of South-North border before the negative elections awaiting ahead in 2009 and referendum of 2011.

The SPLM leadership needs to try all means for the border to be demacated before things get out of hand. Following that untrust GNU is not a good option! Talk, talk without actions are nothing! Riek Machar must have other strategies that are valuable than suggestions without implementations. If border was demacated, I think, the Abyei incident in couples of months ago would have not happen! If it would have happened, it would have been consider as an incursion into South Sudan without the realm authorities knowledge! It is very crucial issue and it needs mindful thoughts.

Do more than talking without follow up!

Riek Machar, Riek Gai, and Riek Degol,

what a mess is with these Rieks. Me I didn’t truth these names. why? because Riek Machiar and Riek Gai run to Khartoum killing and betraying their own people, he also failed to bring peace between LRA of Konyi and NRM of Museveni. Riek Gai is the leader of the terrorist group in the Sudan who are trained to eliminate political leaders of the South on top of them Dr. Garang which he is already eliminated him. then Again an other Riek is the chairperson of another important committee who will determine the fate of oil rich areas of Paluoch and Mayom as well as Abyei. Oh God have you punished us through this name Riek? why don’t you choose an other name in the South, we will not mine whether is Galuak and Pouk, since these people are well known of betraying their own brothers.

Pliz God we are tired of Name RIEK.
