South Sudan embarks on developing local entrepreneurs

November 23, 2008 (JUBA) – An amount of $12 million US dollars has been earmarked by the Government of Southern Sudan towards the development of private business entrepreneurship in the semi-autonomous region.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Anthony Lino Makana, had presented to the cabinet his Ministry’s proposed project for next year to support and help develop small and medium size local business entrepreneurs in Southern Sudan.
Present and potential local business men and women without capital to expand or start small businesses are expected to benefit from the project.
The project is to avail cash loans to qualified applicants ranging from few thousands to tens of thousands of US dollars, and may be more.
Repayment of the borrowed money with charged interest begins after a specified grace period and spreads over duration to be determined by the amount borrowed.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting and official Spokesperson for the Government, Gabriel Changson Chang, told the press after the meeting that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry had piloted the project this year with only $1 million US dollars, which benefited only five states and could not make much needed positive impact.
With this additional $12 million for the year 2009, Chang assured that more applicants who would meet the criteria required in all the ten Southern Sudan states would benefit from the money next year.
Chaired by the Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the Council of Ministers also resolved to design an overall Government policy towards developing the private sector and with the view to decentralizing projects geared towards supporting entrepreneurship among all the relevant institutions.
The meeting also stressed the need to establish special financial institutions specifically for economic sectors such as agriculture, etc., to support entrepreneurs in such sectors.
Southern Sudan’s economy depends solely on the 50% share of revenues from the oil sector where more than 90% of its overall annual budget comes from the region’s two leading oil producing states of Unity and Upper Nile.
The region is potentially rich in other public and private sectors that, when developed, would also accrue not only additional revenue to the Government, but also provide employment to the citizens that mostly depend on the three-year old Government for jobs.

When there is any thing to do with money, there is always a foot print of Riak and apprearance of his name in particular. Those five states which benefit from the USA $$$ are those unity, lake, upper,warrap and their mother jungle engine of corruption and having corruptees as well, and the same thing is going to happen with this $ 12 million which will never affect those states which are not getting any benefits.
But it is good to eat them n your states with silence and harmony not roaming around looking for more to grabb, be in your states there is no body who cares about your oil, don’t wonder around with your money causing toubles in every states and villages. mess killing, raping, violences and those barbaric act in other states like Greater Equatoria comes as the result of this money where some are dancing with them on their heads. If this romours of what had happen in Nimule is sort of true incident, probably i better howl for Equatorians to be aware of what is to happen before it happens. I see that most of your people are attracted to this Greater Region just because of those fake Ugandan and Congolese ladies, but for sake i advice you not to dance with this oil revenue by spending them on whores, it is unhealth and dangerous to yourselves.
The writer used to challenged and oppose the brains of Southerner, but now he is back onto the right truck to peace, democracy and unity in South. HE is anti triblism and corruption his logic always deserve a better nation for all

I think when people talked about five states, I don’t think everybody within those states got a share from the previous 1 million dollars of the last year. For you to find out whether this money is given out selectively, I guess you better go and put your application in for you to find out what is behind this money.
In fact I agree with you in the sense that, there are few people who had benefited and will still benefit from this money than others. As business student myself, there are normally some business goals which government requires when it come to the business loans before the government gurrantee you with federal loans.
Always to be qualified, you must be either a already person who own the business, have business certificate or at least have business assets which the government my posses or confiscate if case you failed to repay the loan. But I don’t understand if these are the creterias these people are talking about at this particular case.
Anyway, go head and apply for the loan so that you can find out the truth on this.

Sharing ideas with you is like sharing plate with vulture. I was trying my best to bring your nerves down by explaning to you the way how business is operated. But your retardation challenges made it hard to get it. I am sure no body from your village that led a bundle of cassava to the neighbor who don’t have cassava garden because he fears that the borrower will not pay back his cassava since he don’t have cassava garden. That is the same hint body, government cannot give money to the person who don’t have any business skills or some valueble materials such buildings or land that government can posses and sell to the public in order to recover its money if borrower failed to pay the debt.
So Mr. Logic, You cannot get out from bar with your shabby clothes and you expect governmet to lead you thousands of dollars for you to finish with Ugandan Whisky before you return to them for another loan, no governmet can do that daug.
Regarding Mukerere University and GOSS money, better to remeber that, there are thousands of Sudanese students in different countries or within Sudan who study or graduate without looking for government help. There are a lot of scholarships out there which are designed to assist southern Sudan students at any time. If you stop insulting people here and begin researching for those scholarships you may find somebody who may pay your tuition fees without GOSS.
Hence, I don’t want money from GOSS, matter of fact, I want GOSS to help you.
