Salva Kiir, Kuwaiti envoy discuss investment in southern Sudan

November 24, 2008 (JUBA) – Sudanese First Vice-President and President of southern Sudan government Salva Kiir Mayadrit praised on Monday Kuwait’s role in supporting the development of South Sudan.

The head of southern Sudan made this statement during a meeting with the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Sudan Suleiman Al-Harbi in the capital of the south (Juba). The Kuwaiti envoy discussed ways to in invest in the semi-autonomous region.

Kiir said that “Kuwait is at the forefront of Arab countries which provided much to the South,” recalling the numerous development projects Kuwait has established especially during the period that followed the first peace agreement that was signed under former President Jafar Nimeiri.

Kiir further said that southern Sudan people bear special affection for the people of Kuwait who have always been in support of the Sudanese people.

For his part, the Kuwaiti Ambassador said that Kiir expressed hope that the Kuwaiti role be present in the era of peace, stressing that the doors of the southern region are open to Kuwaiti investments in both public and private sectors.

The ambassador noted that his talks with Sudanese First Vice President addressed the relations between Kuwait and the South and how to develop it, further they tackled the prospects for Kuwaiti investments and the participation of the Gulf country in the southern Sudan development.

The Ambassador who started today a visit to southern Sudan, said he met with Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Pagan Amum and GoSS ministers of energy and mining, transportation and bridges, the economy and health who have offered a number of projects in which Kuwait can invest.

Harbi is expected to meet tomorrow with southern Sudan speaker and a number of southern Sudan officials.

    The decision on Kuwaiti Governments investiment in South Sudan should be pardon, it is not necessary on spending $$$ on South investments. Not interest South Sudan investment on demands from Mesopotamia, not necessary for Afrique Europe!, not at all!!!
